Campaign Spending Commission Meeting

Members Present:
A. Duane Black, Mona Chock, Richard Choy
Staff Present:
Robert Watada, Jon Itomura, Ellen Kojima
Call to Order:
Meeting convened at 3:45 p.m. with Chairman Black presiding.
Consideration of Minutes:
Ms. Chock moved to approve the minutes of September 18, 2001; Mr. Choy seconded. Motion carried.
New Business:
Review Draft Treasurer's Manual and Candidate Guidebook
Commissioners reviewed drafts of the Manual and Guidebook. Review also familiarized commissioners with candidate process.
Communications to Commission:
Legislation
Discussed possible changes to the law for the upcoming session. Some changes include:
- Reducing the contribution limits by half
- Banning or putting a cap on corporate and contractor contributions
- Reporting of expenditures made on behalf of candidates by parties
- Qualifying contributions from residents of state
- Repeal of the code of fair campaign practices
- Penalties for specific offenses
Next Meeting:
Meetings scheduled for November and December have been rescheduled as follows:
Wednesday, November 14 to Wednesday, November 21 at 3:45 p.m.
Wednesday, December 12 to Tuesday, December 18 at 3:00 p.m.
No further business to discuss, Chairman Black adjourned meeting.
