Denial of Service (DoS) Attack

last modified 2008-10-03 11:45

A denial of service attack, or DOS attack, is an assault upon a network or web site that floods it with so many additional requests that regular services are either slow or completely interrupted.  In some instances, a group or remotely controlled, compromised desktops are combined to jointly attack a target system, this is known as a distributed denial of service.
