Next Generation Network (NGN)
The NGN is a newhigh-speed shared network that the ICSD is implementing for the State of Hawaii with its partners GTE Hawaiian Tel (now Verizon-Hawaii) and Cisco Systems. It is a gigabit backbone using IP/Ethernet and will be the foundation for the future development of the State’s intranet. The NGN will connect all state buildings on all islands. It will provide any-to-any connectivity and will provide access to shared resources such as the Internet, applications, and servers. ICSD’s Telecommunication Services Branch is implementing the first phase of hardware installations in key buildings in the downtown civic center.
State of Hawaii Electronic Mail System (SOHEM)
In September 1999 Lotus Notes was declared the email platform for the Executive Branch. In January 2000, ICSD’s Technology Support Services Branch implemented Lotus Notes email and calendaring services for the Cabinet. Email services were provided to department heads, and their deputies, secretaries and departmental data processing coordinators. Lotus Notes is also implemented and used extensively by ICSD.
Act 141 Professional Services Awards Interactive Web Application
At the request of the State Procurement Office, ICSD’s Technology Support Services Branch designed, developed, and implemented a web-based interactive database application with distributed data capture to implement Act 141, Professional Services Awards, which the Governor signed into law on May 30, 2000. Act 141 requires professional services contracts to be posted electronically within seven days of the award. The project began on June 15 and was implemented with the departments on July 3. The information query capability was made available to the general public on July 10.
Statewide Intranet Portal
The State of Hawaii Intranet Portal serves as the central web access point for employees in the State Government. The Portal uses many Open Source components such as Apache httpd, Linux, MySQL, PHP, Python, and Zope/CMF/Phone.
