at Oahu DAGS' facilities results in approximately $75,000-$100,000 monthly savings.

Due to the downturn in the economy, steps to reduce operating costs and natural resources have moved to the top of our priorities... The Central Services Division's Repairs and Alterations branch has been working on the following to achieve this goal:

  • De-lamping - Removing lamps while still maintaining an adequate lighting level.
  • Replacing lighting with higher efficiency lighting.
  • Replacing Urinals with models that provide more than 87% water savings.
  • Replacing rest-room faucets with water saving faucets.
  • Installing high efficiency hand dryers that reduce operating costs by more than 95% and reduces paper waste.
  • Replacing exit signs reducing energy usage by more than 97%.

These strategies, in combination with other strategies being done by the Central Services Division, has reduced energy usage at Oahu DAGS' facilities by about 500,000 kWh per month... This equates to about $75,000 - $100,000 monthly savings.
