Call Centers
Call Centers are massive work stations, equipped with telephones and computers, where agents answer calls and assist people, with every aspect of eCommerce, from purchasing airline tickets, paying bills, assembling equipment, down to minute functions. They are being developed in key global locations to meet the new, challenging and demanding customer service needs of large-scale global enterprises.
Call centers have been identified as an important economic development opportunity for Hawaii. United Airlines' sizeable call center on Oahu, for example, employs several hundred people. Other centers have been established on the Neighbor Islands.
An important advantage of locating a call center in Hawaii is the state's geographical location, which enables callers to contact customers on the U.S. Mainland and Asia on the same business day.
Another advantage is Hawaii's multi-lingual workforce, comprised primarily of people of Asian descent, many of whom can speak several languages. In addition, the state possesses outstanding telecommunications facilities.
