Doing High Tech in Hawaii

Document Actions

In recognizing the need to diversify Hawaii's tourism based economy, the State of Hawaii is focused on promoting the emergence of a viable and sustainable high technology based industry. The High Technology Business Investment Tax Credit, the Internet Tax Freedom Act, the Motion Picture and Film Production Income Tax Credit, as well as income and/or general excise tax exemptions for computer services, stock options, and royalties are all recent legislative actions designed to encourage investment and growth in Hawaii's high technology industry.

In addition to enacting legislation to promote the high technology industry, Hawaii also offers assistance to high technology startups and existing companies seeking entrance into the Hawaiian marketplace through the High Technology Development Corporation (HTDC). HTDC manages incubators on Oahu and Maui, develops business support programs statewide, and provides technical assistance and mentoring to assist local companies in securing Federal program resources and grants.

HTDC offers a variety of services, including the latest news, upcoming events, a technology business directory on HiTechHawaii.com and TechJobsHawaii.org - a free service to both jobseekers and employers interested in finding or filling technology positions located in Hawaii.
