Interview with Philip Dibibar

Interview with Philip Dibibar, 2003

Source: CZM Hawaii

"Wai‘anae is home. There's no place else like it. I don't want to live anywhere else. It's hard to name one thing that makes Wai‘anae special, but one thing is definitely the people. You know, they might not show brotherly love, but if you're out somewhere and push does come to shove and if there's other Wai‘anae people there, you definitely know that and they're watching your back.

Wai‘anae is special because we're located in an area where not a lot of people know about and not too many people want to drive out because we have a bad rap. A part of [Wai‘anae being special] has to do with the history. There's a lot of families that have lived in Wai‘anae for generations and generations. I'm second generation living in Wai‘anae and I really wouldn't want to live anywhere else."
