Abstract:

This data set shows the median annual rainfall in millimeters and inches for the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. This file was clipped from a larger data set that showed median rainfall on the Hawaiian Islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii.

Purpose:

The purpose of this data set is to show the median annual rainfall on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It is part of a larger effort to provide the Waianae community, located on the western side of Oahu, ecological and cultural spatial data to assist in their land and resource management efforts .

Process_Description:

This data set was clipped to the island of Oahu using ESRI ArcGIS from the state coverage entitled rainfall that showed median rainfall on the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii.

The original data was digitized in the early 1990's into ESRI ArcInfo format by the Hawaii Office of Planning using ArcEdit from island-wide mylar maps (obtained from the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources) of varying scales and sizes. Scales varied by island, and were as follows: Kauai 1-1/4" = 2 mi. ( ~ 1:101,376) Oahu 1" = 2 mi. ( ~ 1:126,720) Molokai 1" = 2 mi. ( ~ 1:126,720) Lanai 1" = 2 mi. ( ~ 1:126,720) Hawaii 3" = 16 mi. ( ~ 1:337,920)
