This data set shows the estimated daily solar insulation contours, in calories/sq.cm/day, for the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. This file was clipped from a larger data set that showed solar insulation contours for the Hawaiian Islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, and Hawaii.

Purpose:

The purpose of this data set is to show the estimated daily solar insulation contours for the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It is part of a larger effort to provide the Waianae community, located on the western side of Oahu, ecological and cultural spatial data to assist in their land and resource planning efforts.

This data set was clipped to the island of Oahu using ESRI ArcGIS from the state coverage entitled solrad that showed estimated daily solar insulation contours on the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, and Hawaii.

The original data was digitized in 1992 into ESRI ArcInfo format by the Hawaii Office of Planning using ArcEdit from 11" x 17" paper "Sunshine Maps," published in 1985 by the Hawaii Department of Planning and Economic Development, of varying scales and sizes.
