Abstract:

This dataset contains sewer lines, as recorded on NOAA nautical charts, located in marine waters in the vicinity of the Waianae moku (traditional district) on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It was clipped from a larger data set that included sewer lines in marine water within the vicinity of the eight main Hawaiian Islands.

Purpose:

The purpose of this data set is to show sewer lines in marine waters within the vicinity of the Waiane moku on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It is part of a larger effort to provide the Waianae community, located on the western side of Oahu, ecological and cultural spatial data to assist in their land and resource management efforts.

This data set was clipped using ESRI ArcGIS to show only the sewer outlets in marine waters within the vicinity of the Waianae moku, as recorded on NOAA nautical charts. It was clipped from the state shapefile entitled sewerlines that displays sewer outlets in marine waters within the vicinity of the eight main Hawaiian Islands.

The original shapefile was created as follows: The raster nautical charts were first reprojected from their original projection/datum to UTM Zone 4, Old Hawaiian using NOAA's Nautical Chart Reprojector v1.8.3. NOAA's ArcView ChartViewer extension was used to display the reprojected nautical charts in ArcView v3.2. Objects were then digitized off the individual nautical charts and merged into a single dataset/shapefile which covers the entire state. The dataset was then transformed to UTM Zone 4, NAD 83, to adhere to new project requirements, using the Hawaii Datums and Projections extension in ArcView. Completed December, 2002.
