This dataset contains perennial and significant streams within the Waianae moku (traditional district) on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu, as defined by the Commission on Water Resources Management in 1993. It was clipped from a dataset that shows perennial/significant streams on the Hawaiian Islands of Hawaii, Kauai, Maui, Molokai, and Oahu.

Purpose:

The purpose of this data set is to show perennial and significant streams in the Waianae moku on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It is part of a larger effort to provide the Waianae community, located on the western side of Oahu, ecological and cultural spatial data to assist in their land and resource management efforts.

This data set was clipped using ESRI ArcGIS to show only the perennial and significant streams in the Waianae moku on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It was clipped from the state coverage entitled STRMSPEREN that displays perennial and significant streams on the eight main Hawaiian Islands.

The original data was created as follows: Arcs were extracted from the 1983 USGS DLG hydrography layers based on the CWRM Hawaii Stream Assessment (HSA) maps and database, then coded with the HSA stream code and the HSA stream name. The layer was created in 1994 for CWRM and OSP under contract with GeoInSight. The info tables were "cleaned" in 1998 by OP staff.
