Abstract:

This dataset contains locations of water quality monitoring sites within the Waianae moku (traditional district) on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It was clipped from a dataset that shows water quality monitoring sites on the eight main Hawaiian Islands.

Purpose:

The purpose of this data set is to show the location of water quality monitoring sites in the Waianae moku on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It is part of a larger effort to provide the Waianae community, located on the western side of Oahu, ecological and cultural spatial data to assist in their land and resource management efforts.

Note 1: Fresh water monitoring sites were not checked by DOH. Several were not located directly on streams (based on lat/long) - Ogden recommended locational checks on these sites. This data set was clipped using ESRI ArcGIS to show only the water quality monitoring sites in the Waianae moku on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It was clipped from the state coverage entitled wqsites that displays water quality monitoring sites on the eight main Hawaiian Islands.

The original data was created as follows: The U.S. EPA provided latitude/longitude coordinates for STORET sites and the Hawaii Department of Health provided latitude/longitude coordinates for ODES sites to Ogden Environmental. The files were converted to point coverages using the Arc/Info GENERATE command by Ogden Environmental in 1994 in Arc/Info version 6.1.2. Generated coverages were then projected into UTM Zone 4, Old Hawaiian Datum. The data was then converted to UTM Zone 4, NAD 83 (presumably by the Hawaii Office of Planning).
