The USGS's description of Wai`anae land divisions appears to be the basis for the "ahupua`a" (a traditional Hawaiian land divisions) shown in "Sites of Oahu" by Elspeth P. Sterling and Catherine C. Summers (Bernice P. Bishop Museum, 1978).
It is interesting to note that in both the USGS maps and "Sites of Oahu", the land division called "Wai`anae `Uka" is not part of Wai`anae District, but included in Wahiawa District. Wahiawa District was created in 1913 and consists of the "ahupua`a" of Wahiawa and Wai`anae `Uka (see "Sites of Oahu", page 134).
The original file was created from information contained in maps from the United States Geologic Survey (USGS) 7.5 minute quadrangle series published in the early 1950's and "Sites of Oahu" by Elspeth P. Sterling and Catherine C. Summers (Bernice P. Bishop Museum, 1978).
