Abstract:

This dataset shows the location of pipes and transmission lines in the Waianae moku (traditional district) on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It was clipped from a larger dataset that shows pipes and transmission lines for the eight main Hawaiian Islands.

Purpose:

The purpose of this data set is to show pipes and transmission lines within the Waianae moku on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It is part of a larger effort to provide the Waianae community, located on the western side of Oahu, ecological and cultural spatial data to assist in their land and resource management efforts.

Process_Description:

This data set was clipped using ESRI ArcGIS to show only the pipe and transmissoin lines within the Waianae moku. It was clipped from the state coverage entitled UTILITY_DLG that shows utility lines for the eight main Hawaiian Islands.

The original coverage was extracted from the USGS 1983 DLGs for the main hawaiian islands.

Description from "Standards for Digital Line Graphs, Part 3 Attribute Coding":

Transmission lines and pipelines are not shown on USGS maps as continuous transportation features. These features are shown more for their landmark character. Pipelines in particular are often shown only where there is a visible scar on the ground. As explained in section 3.0.5, some features are suppressed for legibility concerns. Transmission lines and pipelines are often suppressed for other features, particularly roads. Do not attempt to connect the dropped portions of these features. Digitize these features as shown on the map.
