Abstract:: This dataset shows the concentration of threatened and endangered plants within the Waianae moku (traditional district) on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It was clipped from a larger dataset that shows the concentration of threatened and endangered plants for the main Hawaiian Islands.
Purpose:: The purpose of this data set is to display concentrations of threatened and endangered plants within the Waianae moku on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. It is part of a larger effort to provide the Waianae community, located on the western side of Oahu, ecological and cultural spatial data to assist in their land and resource management efforts.
Supplemental_Information:: There is one threatened and endangered (T&E) coverage for each Hawaiian island. Each island is divided into distinct zones of T&E species concentration, ranging from 'low' concentration to 'very high' concentration of T&E plant species. It should be noted, however, that for these particular coverages, concentration does not necessarily reflect the rareness of a particular plant species. In other words, an area designated as having a 'low' concentration of T&E species may include the last known occurrence of a particular plant species.

Process_Description:

This data set was clipped using ESRI ArcGIS to show only threatened and endangered plant concentrations within the Waianae moku. It was clipped from the state coverage entitled teplnt that shows rare plant concentrations within the main Hawaiian Islands.

The original file was created as follows: All island coverages were digitized from Division of Forestry and Wildlife's mylar threatened and endangered (T&E) plant species maps. The maps were all at a scale of 1:62,500 except Hawaii, which was at a scale of 1:250,000. DOFAW's maps were created using The Nature Conservancy's Rare & Endangered Species maps. Digitized by the Office of Planning from source describe above, March, 1992.
