HONOLULU--DBEDT in partnership with the U.S. ASEAN Business Council will feature a special presentation on opportunities for Hawaii businesses in Southeast Asia, immediately following the 2004 Asia-Pacific Homeland Security Summit & Exposition that is being held from November 14-17 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu. The presentation will be on Wednesday, November 17, 2004.

“ASEAN is historically, culturally, and quantitatively the most trade focused region in the world,” noted DBEDT Director Theodore E. Liu. “Trade accounts for over $700 billion of its Gross Domestic Product. In 2003, two-way trade between US and ASEAN nations surpassed $120 billion.”

The ten countries that comprise ASEAN have more than 550 million consumers, is the third largest overseas market for the United States, and is host to major U.S. direct investment.
