HONOLULU-- The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) has released the 37th edition of the annual, State of Hawaii Data Book. Available only on the internet, the State Data Book is the most comprehensive source of statistics on the social, economic, government and business activity for Hawaii. The new edition can be found on the DBEDT Internet site.
"The State Data Book is an essential resource for businesses and government in identifying trends, conducting research and identifying markets," said DBEDT Director, Theodore E. Liu. "The publication is useful for both local residents and for people outside of our state looking for opportunities to do business in Hawaii."
Produced by the Department's Research and Economic Analysis Division, the 2004 edition of the State of Hawaii Data Book contains nearly 800 tables of data on the economy, population, government and social conditions. Just a few interesting facts that can be found in the new State Data Book include:

- In June 2004 there were 819,262 mobile wireless telephone subscribers in the State. Put another way, nearly everyone between 12 to 58 years of age had a cell phone in Hawaii. (table 16.06)
- Both the Men's and Women's Honolulu Marathon records of 2:11:12 and 2:27:33, respectively, were set at the 2004 event this past December. (Table 7.57)
