HONOLULU--The Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) has released the 39th annual edition of the State of Hawaii Data Book on the DBEDT web site at http://www.hawaii.gov/dbedt.
"This year's Data Book is dedicated to its founder, the late Robert Schmitt," said State Economist Pearl Imada-Iboshi. "Mr. Schmitt's vast knowledge of Hawaii made possible the compilation of this publication, which covers virtually every segment of our state's economy."
The 24-section State Data Book provides a broad spectrum of information relating to Hawaii in all areas including demographic, social, and economic data.
"This publication is widely used by the residents of Hawaii for policy making, business planning, and conducting research." said DBEDT Director Theodore E. Liu. "The Data Book also serves as a bridge connecting Hawaii to the rest of the world through numbers."
The State of Hawaii Data Book is produced by the Department's Research and Economic Analysis Division. It contains 790 tables. Some revealing facts from this year's edition include:
- Between 2004 and 2006, statewide residential electricity customers increased by 3.0% from 391,567 in 2004 to 403,278 in 2006, while average electricity consumption decreased by 2.2% during the same time period from 8,061 (kwh) in 2004 to 7,887 (kwh) in 2006.
