GRAMMY Museum Presents "Hawai‘i Goes GRAMMY: A Tribute to Hawaiian Music"

HONOLULU—The GRAMMY Museum in downtown Los Angeles will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Hawaiian music with "Hawai‘i Goes GRAMMY: A Tribute to Hawaiian Music" on February 6, 2009. The museum will feature performances by 2009 GRAMMY nominees in the Hawaiian Music category Amy Hanaiali‘i, Tia Carrera and Daniel Ho, Led Kaapana and Mike Kaawa, Milton Lau, and more.

"One of the major missions at The GRAMMY Museum is to celebrate all genres of music," said Georja Skinner, Chief Officer for Creative Industries of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT). "We are excited and honored that the leadership at the museum has chosen to integrate and showcase Hawaiian music as part of its ongoing commitment to this multi-faceted art form. It is a well-deserved recognition of Hawaii's l contributions to the global musical landscape."

In addition to the concert, the participating artists will answer questions from Museum Executive Director Robert Santelli about musical customs, traditional instruments, Hawaii's burgeoning music industry, and more.

The event is part of an ongoing collaboration between the GRAMMY Museum and DBEDT's Creative Industries Division to showcase the contribution and diversity of Hawai‘i's music to global audiences.

"Hawaiian music is an integral part of living in Hawai‘i. The Hawai‘i brand and experience, along with our host culture and Aloha spirit, differentiates our visitor experience," said Ted Liu, DBEDT director. "We are very pleased that Hawai‘i's unique music and our GRAMMY nominees are being recognized by the GRAMMY Museum."

"Hawai‘i Goes GRAMMY: A Tribute to Hawaiian Music" will take place at 8 p.m. in the GRAMMY Sound Stage, on the second floor of The GRAMMY Museum in downtown Los Angeles. Doors open at 7:30 p m.
