Chengdu Delegation 2006
Purpose:
The U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service office in Chengdu, China requested an environmental industry briefing for a delegation of government officials from the Chengdu Water Authority and the Chengdu Environmental Protection Bureau. The group was transiting through Hawaii, on their way back from the annual American Water Works Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
The delegation was led by Ms. Ling Chen, Commercial Specialist with the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service and Mr. Li Liu, Deputy Director of the Chengdu Water Authority. A dozen participants, representing Hawaii’s environmental business community, attended.
The briefing featured project presentations by Environet and Marine AgriTech. After the question and answer session, the group visited Marine AgriTech’s akulikuli water purification demonstration project at the Ala Wai Canal. The group had requested and was given a technical presentation by Hawaii Environmental Biosolutions at the University of Hawaii’s Water Resource Center. The Chengdu Water Authority was extremely interested in the biopottery product developed and manufactured by Hawaii Environmental Biosolutions. The product is a water filtration and purification system which has direct application to Chengdu’s agricultural and human waste pollution problems prevalent in the Fu Nan River.
Hawaii Environmental Biosolutions’ sister company, MicroNose Technologies, has visited Chengdu three times to seek business opportunities in the area. Liangjie Dong, Chief Technology Officer and inventor of the proprietary technology, visited Chengdu in August 2006 to negotiate a contract with the Chengdu Water Authority.
Results:
As a result of two visits to Hawaii organized the USFCS-Chengdu and Beijing, DBEDT will lead a delegation of Hawaii companies on an environmental mission to Shanghai and Chengdu in September 2006.
