The Hawaii Experience in Fukuoka May, 2006
25th Anniversary of Hawaii-Fukuoka Sister State Relationship
Purpose:
In recognition of the 25th anniversary of Hawaii’s Sister-State relationship with Fukuoka Prefecture, the Departments of Business, Economic Development & Tourism, Department of Agriculture, the Oahu Visitors Bureau and its partners led a business mission to Fukuoka, Japan, from May 17-22, 2006.
Participants included 47 individuals representing Hawaii’s business community, Fukuoka Kenjinkai and government.
The mission featured four events:
- Visitors to Tenjin Solaria, one of Fukuoka’s most popular and fashionable shopping areas were treated to Hawaiian music and hula, hands-on cultural demonstrations and Made in Hawaii product sampling.
- Japanese buyers, distributors and importers were invited to meet Hawaii businesses at “The Hawaii Experience – Business Trade Show.” Over 70 meetings were held.
- “The Hawaii Experience – Gala Reception” featured authentic Hawaiian music and hula. Over 400 people attended this event. Enjoying the entertainment with guests from Fukuoka. Hawaii businesses sold and/or promoted their Hawaii products and services during the concert.
Organizations that partnered with DBEDT and the DOA included the Oahu Visitors Bureau, U.S. Embassy-Tokyo, U.S. Consulate-Fukuoka and Osaka; U.S. Department of Agriculture, Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Japan Airlines, Hawaii Fukuoka Kenjinkai and the Fukuoka Prefecture Government.
