Vice Premier Wu Yi visits Hawaii

Vice Premier Wu Yi, considered the most powerful woman in China, visited Hawaii on April 3, 2006.  Madame Wu was accompanied by several cabinet members, including Mr. Shao Qiwei, the Chairman of the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), and a delegation of 130 business and government officials.

Highlights:

  •  An investment seminar at the Hilton Hawaiian Village was attended by members of the Chinese delegation and more than 100 Hawaii businesspersons and government officials.  The seminar featured an overview presentation by DBEDT Director Theodore Liu; talks by Chinese Vice Minister Ma Xiuhong and Chairman Shao; and a presentation by DragonBridge Capital Directors Barry Weinman and Po Chi Woo.
  •  A reception at Washington Place for Madame Wu, was hosted by Governor Lingle.  Chairman Shao signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Tourism Development which created partnerships between Hawaii and Chinese businesses; promoted exchanges; facilitated cooperation in tourism research, and established a training program for CNTA officials.
  • A tour of Iolani Palace was hosted by the Friends of Iolani Palace and a tour of the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve was hosted by Mayor Mufi Hannemann and his staff.
