Biennial June 30 every odd numbered year. (Deadline to submit renewal application is end of May odd number year.)
Inactive Licensees who have not practiced for 5 or more years may be required to retake and pass the NCLEX or complete appropriate continuing education approved by the Hawaii Board of Nursing.
(APRN with prescriptive authority)
Biennial June 30 every odd numbered year. An APRN with prescriptive authority will no longer be issued a separate license ("RX"). This requirement was repealed effective March 28, 2013 when amendments to Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapter 89 went into effect. Consequently, the amendment to the administrative rules made the APRN's prescriptive authority a "special privilege" under the APRN license. An APRN with prescriptive authority must submit 30 hours of continuing education in order to renew the prescriptive authority.
Failure to timely renew by the renewal date will result in the forfeiture of the license. After the renewal date, the forfeited license may be restored within 6 months and subject to meeting restoration requirements. Failure to restore a forfeited license within 6 months after the renewal date will result in the termination of the license and the person must apply as a new applicant and meet current licensing requirements.
Pursuant to Section 436B-14.5, HRS, any license held by a member of the armed forces, National Guard, or a reserve component that expires, is forfeited, or deemed delinquent while the member is on active duty and deployed during a state or national crisis shall be restored if certain restoration requirements are met.
