Welcome to the State of Hawaii LifeSmarts Competition

LifeSmarts, the Ultimate Consumer Challenge, is a FREE consumer education competition open to teens in grades 6-12. The competition tests students on their knowledge of

  • Personal Finance
  • Health and Safety
  • Environment
  • Technology
  • Consumer Rights and Responsibilities

Take a practice quiz and see if you’re ready for the ultimate consumer challenge. Gather your friends and form a team. Each team needs an adult sponsor or coach.

Coaches may enter more than one team, but only one team from each school or organization may qualify for the state competition. So hurry and get your team signed up.

Public schools needing mentors

Want to have your school compete in the LifeSmarts competition but can’t make the time commitment? Get assistance from a mentor. Contact the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support (OCISS) at (808)733-9141 or the Corporate and Community Partnerships Office at (808)586-3687.

Volunteers needed as mentors

Want to share your expertise and life experiences with Hawaii’s youth? Volunteers are needed to help guide students in any or all of the LifeSmarts subject areas. Sessions are scheduled independently with schools and should be held between September 1 and November 30. LifeSmarts will provide volunteers with teaching resources. Sign up to become a mentor at www.helphawaiischools.com by clicking on Mentoring/eMentoring under Support Services and fill in LifeSmarts in the additional information box. If you have questions or need assistance, contact Judy Nagasako, Corporate and Community Partnerships Office of the Department of Education, at (808)586-3687.
