Counseling needed to prevent lease cancellation will play an important role in DHHL homeownership. With current market conditions showing signs of increased mortgage foreclosures because of the sub-prime mortgage crisis, it is important that DHHL lessees be prepared. How the sub-prime mortgage crisis affects DHHL lessees is unknown, but one thing is sure, qualifications to pre-qualify for a mortgage has tightened, making it difficult for people to receive credit. HOAP offers post-homeownership and lease cancellation prevention counseling that helps clients prepare for circumstances that may cause financial distress. The loss of a job, medical hardship, increasing debt, or other hardships that cause financial distress should be addressed early to prevent foreclosure on a home. Service providers will be available to provide solutions for families who need financial planning to prevent lease cancellation or mortgage foreclosure. |
