Equal Pay Day 2008: April 22, 2008
According to the 2005 Census Bureau, fulltime, year-round working women earn only 77(nationally)/83(Hawaii) cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. At the rate of progress achieved between 1989 and 2002, women wouldn’t achieve wage parity for 50 years.

Equal Pay Day 2008
The Commission on the Status of Women will once again participate in the national Equal Pay Day events. Equal Pay Day symbolizes the point into the next year a woman must work to achieve pay equity. Her male counterpart works five days a week for 12 months, whereas she will have to work seven days a week for 16 months to earn equivalent wages. This year that date is April 22, 2008, Equal Pay Day 2008. There will be a series of events to focus attention on women’s fight for pay equity and economic self-sufficiency. For Wage Gap information and resources along with a gap calculator visit the Wage Project web-site at www.wageproject.org or the American Association of University Women web-site at www.aauw.org.

Women's History Month - March
The Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women (HSCSW) held the Women’s History Month 2008 Reception at Washington Place on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This year’s theme was “Women’s Art: Women’s Vision.” The 2008 theme celebrated and recognized the vision of women artists. The goal of the theme was to represent the diverse forms of visual arts including painting, sculpture, weaving, pottery, embroidery, as well as forms from modern media art. As is always the goal with Women’s History Month, we took this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the courage, determination and steadfastness of the Women of Hawaii. It is with a sense of great privilege that the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women fulfills its mandate to highlight the contributions of women in the state.
The goal was to create a state wide celebration of women’s art and themes starting in January 2008 leading up to the Women’s History Month Reception in March.
