Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs)

For current fish aggregating device locations and status contact the nearest office of the Division of Aquatic Resources or visit the FAD Program website at http://www.hawaii.edu/HIMB/FADS/

Prohibited
Unlawful to attach, moor or tie any boat or watercraft, or any rigging or structure to, or to board, deface, damage, remove or destroy any fish aggregating device.

Exceptions
Permits may be issued for certain activities.

Catch Reporting
Information provided by fishermen regarding catches made around surface and midwater FADs is important because it shows whether a FAD is productive. This information affects the replacement of buoys when they become lost.
Commercial fishermen must report FAD catches on their monthly catch reports.
