DLNR REMINDER: PARKING AREAS AT ALA WAI HELIPAD AND
HILTON LAGOON CLOSED THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FOR STRIPING

HONOLULU - The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is reminding ocean recreation and harbor users that parking areas at the Ala Wai small boat harbor helipad and along Hilton Lagoon will be closed from approximately 6 a.m. on Thursday, November 6 to approximately 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 8.

These free public parking areas at the Ala Wai helipad and along the Hilton Lagoon will be closed for surface cleaning and repainting of lines for the parking stalls.

DLNR’s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) posted notices on Saturday, Nov. 1 at these parking areas, and at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor office warning of the impending closure.

The public wishing to visit the shoreline at Ala Wai may still park in the designated free parking areas along the 600 and 700 rows. Additional parking for overflow vehicle traffic will be available elsewhere in the harbor for a fee.

The repainted areas will reopen to the public on Saturday morning, at which time all rules pertaining to the use of the free parking areas will be in effect. The free parking will be available for recreational users and for harbor users. No vehicles will be allowed to park overnight at the helipad, along the Hilton Lagoon or along the 600 and 700 rows. Towing of vehicles left in these areas will be strictly enforced between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. nightly.

Boating division staff are installing new signs in the helipad and lagoon area stating that the stalls are for "Recreational and harbor users only" and that the area will be closed at night.
Signs regarding the towing procedure and pickup points for towed vehicles have already been placed in the free public parking areas.
