ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNERS OF THE 2012-13 STAMP ART CONTEST
The Division of Forestry and Wildlife is pleased to announce the depiction of a mouflon ram by Carol Tredway as the the winning entry for the Wildlife Conservation Stamp, and the depiction of wild turkeys by Mike Brown as the winning entry for the Game Bird Stamp. There were many excellent paintings of game animals submitted, and a slide show is being developed to be posted, so that all the entries can be shared. Mahalo to all the artists who participated. The State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources is pleased to announce that application forms for the 2012 Lanai Mouflon Sheep Hunting Season, together with instruction sheets, are available at all Division of Forestry and Wildlife Offices Statewide. It is imperative that hunter applicants obtain and pay particular attention to the hunt instruction sheet and addendum for more changes in the application process.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources has developed a set of proposed rules for the administration of the Legacy Lands Conservation Program. Public hearings are being held throughout the state to solicit input prior to formal adoption of the rules. The proposed rules, meeting schedule and procedure for submitting testimony are available at the "Notice of Public Hearings" section of the DLNR Administrative Rules page at: http://hawaii.gov/dlnr/rules
The Department of Land and Natural Resources invites the public to help us take part in a national Big Trees competition. The Big Trees Program, run by American Forests, is a national competition to find the largest trees of particular species in the nation. American Forests’ 2011 National Register of Big Trees represents more than 660 species – 30 more than last year – with trees in 45 states and the District of Columbia. The State of Hawai‘i is looking forward to taking part in this Big Tree competition and is searching for potential candidates of the following species.
