FIRE DATA

Collecting statistical data on fires is an essential part of the management and operation of all fire protection organizations. The data is used to justify existing and proposed additional fire protection programs. It also helps the organization to identify the various factors that make up problem fire areas.

DOFAW has kept fire report data records since 1975. The following information is used to compile the data:

Fire number

Total acres burned

Much of this data is analyzed and recorded on a federal form entitled "Annual Wildfire Summary Report." This information is then sent to the Region 5 Fire & Aviation Management office of the U.S. Forest Service in McClellan CA.
