Forest Industry Development Research
This study was commissioned by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service and the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources to attract and support further development of the forest product industry in Hawaii. The study is comprised of three major components including current plantation timber inventory data, a harvesting, processing and marketing section, and evaluation of a prospective saw mill design to fit the Hawaii market. This study also represents the second of a two-part research effort to investigate the potential of, and promote an increase in the utilization of Hawaii-grown hardwoods in the hardwood lumber "economy" of Hawaii. The first was entitled “Hawaii Hardwood Market Study,” which can also be found on this site.
