May 16, 2013 - Summer 2013 National Drought Outlook Summary. The National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) and its partners issue the Summer 2013 National Drought Outlook at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, DC.
January 9, 2013 - USDA Designates Maui and Hawaii Counties as primary disaster areas due to drought. This disaster designation makes all qualified farm operators on the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Hawaii eligible for low interest emergency loans (EM) from USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA), provided eligibility requirements are met.
December 4, 2012 - The 2012 Pacific Islands Regional Climate Assessment (PIRCA) 2012 report is now available. The Pacific Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA), Pacific Climate Information System (PacCIS), and Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative (PICCC) have collaborated with over 100 scientists and experts to support the regional contribution to the 2013 National Climate Assessment. October 26, 2012 - DWS Calls for Water Conservation Upcountry. Due to continuted dry weather conditions and low flows into the water reservoirs, Upcountry residents are reminded to voluntarily conserve water. Affected area includes Haiku, Makawao, Olinda, Haliimaile, Pukalani, Omaopio/Pulehu, Kula, Keokea/Waiohuli, Ulupalakua, and Kanaio.
