POSITION VACANCY: ARCHAEOLOGIST

Historic Sites Preservation Specialist II

($45-50,000 [SR-24, Exempt], Kona, Hawaii Island)

 

Administers and directs the Hawaii Archaeological Section of the Historic Preservation Division. Reviews applications and other requests to construct, alter or improve historic sites as required by law. Reviews Federal or federally financed or licensed projects for their effect on sites or eligibility for inclusion in the National Register. Negotiates historic preservation stipulations with property owners and governmental planners. Attends meetings of the Hawaii Island Burial Council. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: a graduate degree in Archaeology; plus at least three (3) years of archaeological experience with some Hawaiian Pacific archaeological field experience as a principal investigator; and, demonstrated ability to carry research to completion in the form of publications and manuscripts. Overall experience must be of scope and level of responsibility to demonstrate the applicant has the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Possession of a valid State of Hawaii driver's license is desirable. Applicants must be physically fit to participate in rough fieldwork.
