Duties Summary:
Duties and responsibilities include: reviewing archaeological assessments, archaeological monitoring plans, and data recovery and preservation plans to determine acceptability with federal and state laws; assigns State Inventory Historic Preservation numbers to historic properties; conducts or oversees field visits to ensure compliance with archaeological monitoring and preservation plans; responds to inadvertent burial discoveries within timeframes set forth in State law to determine whether remains fall under the jurisdiction of the department; prepares Hawaii and National Register nomination forms through research of archaeological and historical studies of sites, and districts; attends meetings of the Hawaii Historic Places Review Board; prepares reports to respond to public inquiries, assists or conducts public information sessions, and develops historic preservation review training modules for the public; and various administrative activities.
