A Hawai'i Army National Guard soldier died Thursday evening during training at Fort Hood, Texas, the Hawai'i Department of Defense announced today. The soldier, assigned to the 29th Infantry Bridage Combat Team, collapsed and died shortly after completing a six-mile run about 7 p.m. in the North Fort Hood Training area.

Gov. Linda Lingle signed into law Thursday a measure that provides vehicle weight tax exemptions for non-commercial vehicles registered to Hawai'i residents who are members of the military, including the National Guard, Coast Guard and reserves.
