Bio: COL Bruce E. Oliveira

Commander, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT)

 

Colonel Bruce E. Oliveira was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.  A 1981 graduate of the University of Hawaii, he holds a Bachelor’s and Master's Degree in Education.  He is also a graduate of the Infantry Officers' Advanced Course at Fort Benning, Georgia; the Command General and Staff College, in Leavenworth, Kansas; and the Army War College, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he earned his second Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies.

In 1980, upon completion of Officers Candidate School from the Hawaii Military Academy, Colonel Oliveira was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 299th Infantry, serving first as a Rifle Platoon Leader and subsequently as Anti-tank Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, Combat Support Company Commander, Anti-tank Company Commander, and Battalion Operations Officer.  He was later assigned to the 29th Support Battalion as Operations Officer and then Executive Officer.  Follow on assignments include Assistant Operations Officer, 29th Separate Infantry Brigade; Commander, 25th Infantry Division Detachment Rear; Brigade Operations Officer, 29th Separate Infantry Brigade; and Commander, 2nd Battalion, 299th Infantry.  He served as Deputy Commander, 29th Brigade Combat Team, in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom 2004-2006.  On June 23, 2007, Colonel Oliveira assumed command of 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

 
Colonel Oliveira is on leave from the State of Hawaii, Department of Education where he works as a School Administrator.  Prior to his assignment in school administration he was a high school teacher and then elementary and middle school counselor. 

 

Currently, Colonel Oliveira holds the distinction of being the Modularity Coordination Cell Team Chief for the Hawaii Army National Guard. 


Colonel Oliveira’s personal decorations include: The Bronze Star Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Army Commendation with four Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with six Oak Leaf  Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Hawaii National Guard Service Medal, Hawaii National Guard Hurricane Iniki Ribbon, Hawaii National Guard Active Duty Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

 

Colonel Oliveira and his wife, Jeanne, have three children, Alaka’i, Keliko, and Kamehanaokala.
