1LT Daniels and Team Koa of the 29th IBCT in Hilo, successfully competed in the 2008 Bucket Brigade at the Hilo Bayfront. While aiming buckets of concentrated jets of water at a small hole in a roof of a mock, miniature burning building a few yards away, Team Koa hustled to a second place finish.

Sgt. Captain Dekoning, a medic with B Troop, 1st Squadron, 299th Cavalry Regiment, takes a quiet moment with his wife Anela and feeds his six month old daughter Rmi moments before he has to say "goodbye". Sgt. Dekoning is leaving for Fort Hood, Texas for post-mobilization training for his deployment to Kuwait.

First Solo Mission

The Soldiers of Company A, 29th Brigade Special Troops Battalion and Battery A, 1-487th Field Artillery, attached to the 1-299th Cavalry, were anxious to get on the road. They decided to forgo dinner and instead eat the midnight meal served at the next base they were going to. After all, it was their first convoy escort mission up to Iraq that they would be performing without the watchful eye of their predecessors.

A CET (Convoy Escort Team) from 1-299th Cavalry Regiment shows its pride. The Hawaii based National Guard units are poised to conduct convoy escort missions, as well as other security operations, throughout Iraq and Kuwait.
