FOOT HOOD, Texas » It will be a special ohana combat deployment for Hawaii's 29th Brigade Combat Team. Vietnam war veteran Allan Hoe and his wife, Adele, lost their eldest son, 1st Lt. Nainoa Hoe, three years ago when he was killed by a sniper in Iraq. Nainoa Hoe had been a member of the Army Reserve's 100th Battalion.

About 2,500 soldiers from Oklahoma's 45th Fires Brigade and Hawaii's 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team said farewell to Fort Hood during a ceremony Wednesday morning. Hundreds of family members from Oklahoma, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and Saipan traveled to Central Texas for the ceremony.

Hawaii National Guard soldier dies after Texas training run

A Hawai'i Army National Guard soldier died Thursday evening during training at Fort Hood, Texas, the Hawai'i Department of Defense announced today. The soldier, assigned to the 29th Infantry Bridage Combat Team, collapsed and died shortly after completing a six-mile run about 7 p.m. in the North Fort Hood Training area.

A male soldier with the Hawaii Army National Guard died Thursday evening at North Fort Hood. The soldier, whose name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, collapsed shortly after finishing a six-mile run, according to information from the State of Hawaii’s Defense Department.
