Kahuku, HI- Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG) and the State of Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) is partnering with the Kahuku Medical Center for a Community Health Fair on August 13th where attendees will receive free dental, vision and physical screenings. The HIANG and DOH have established a program called Hawaii Medical Innovative Readiness Training (HI-MIRT), which provides communities access to general health/sports physicals, vision and dental screenings. The program is tailored to assist medically underserved areas and all services are free to the public.
The HI-MIRT program is named E MALAMA KAKOU, or “to care for all”. The project has the flexibility to change and adapt to the various communities needs. During this MIRT rotation, Texas Air National Guard’s 149th MDG has been at Kahuku high school conducting free sports physicals and they also visited three elementary schools to give vision screens to over 1,400 children. The MIRT’s purpose is to provide mission essential training for military medical units and personnel, while building upon the long-standing tradition of the Armed Forces of the United States, acting as good neighbors at the local level.
This is the third MIRT hosted by the HIANG and DOH. The first was held in March and assisted the Waianae community with over 2,200 children and adults being seen by military medical personnel and the second served the Ewa Plain in June.
