DIAMOND HEAD CRATER TO CLOSE NOV. 12-13, 2011

At the Request of the State of Hawaii, Department of Defense, which includes the Hawaii National Guard, the Department of Land and Natural Resources will be closing Diamond Head Crater/Diamond State Monument to the public from 6:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11 to 6:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 14, 2011.

WHO: Hawaii National Guard

WHAT: Diamond Head Crater closure

WHEN: 6:00 p.m., Friday, Nov 11 through 6:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 14

WHERE: Diamond Head State Monument

WHY: At the Request of the State of Hawaii, Department of Defense, which includes the Hawaii National Guard, the Department of Land and Natural Resources will be closing Diamond Head Crater/Diamond State Monument to the public from 6:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11 to 6:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 14, 2011.  The Hawaii National Guard will be utilizing portions of the interior of Diamond Head Crater for training and staging equipment in support of the APEC summit.  “We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause those who had planned to hike the Diamond Head trail during that weekend.  However, the Hawaii National Guard requires a secure area near Waikiki in order to prepare for its missions in support of civil authorities”, said Maj. Gen. Darryll D.M. Wong, State Adjutant General.
