FIRST FEMALE HAWAII AIR NATIONAL GUARD GENERAL RETIRES
After a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, the Hawaii Air National Guard’s first female general has retired. Governor Linda Lingle was among the many dignitaries and flag officers who attended the retirement ceremony. Brigadier General Kathleen Berg became the first female general in the Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG) in August 2005.

WHAT: After a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, the Hawaii Air National Guard’s first female general has retired. Governor Linda Lingle was among the many dignitaries and flag officers who attended the retirement ceremony. Brigadier General Kathleen Berg became the first female general in the Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG) in August 2005. BG Berg served as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air and as the acting Chief of Staff for HIANG. She was most recently assigned as the Mobilization Assistant to Director, J-6 (Communications System) at U.S. Pacific Command. Her Guard career began in 1977. In 1993 she became the first female squadron commander in the HIANG, leading the 293d Combat Communications Squadron at Hickam Air Force Base. BG Berg holds a doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Hawaii and is the Associate Director of the Curriculum Research & Development Group of the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
