Kahuku, HI- Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG) and the State of Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) are partnering with the Kahuku Medical Center and BYUH for a Community Health Fair on March 21st where attendees will receive free dental, vision and physical screenings, and informational services. The HIANG and DOH have established a program called Hawaii Medical Innovative Readiness Training (HI-MIRT), which provides communities access to general health/sports physicals, vision and dental screenings, among other services. The program is tailored to assist medically underserved areas and all services are free to the public.
The HI-MIRT program is named E MALAMA KAKOU, or “to care for all”. The project has the flexibility to change and adapt to the various communities needs. In addition to the health fair, during this HI-MIRT rotation, the Army Reserves’ 7202nd MSU from Richmond, VA will conduct free sports physicals at Kahuku high school and various medical screenings at Kahuku, Laie, Sunset Beach, Hauula, and Kaaawa elementary schools. Free dental services will also be offered at Kahuku Medical Center from March 16-24. The HI-MIRT’s purpose is to provide mission essential training for military medical units and personnel, while building upon the long-standing tradition of the Armed Forces of the United States, acting as good neighbors at the local level.
This is the fourth HI-MIRT project hosted by the HIANG and DOH, and the first for 2009. Last year, HI-MIRT provided free healthcare on the Leeward Coast, the Ewa Plain, and the Koolauloa communities of Oahu.
