HAWAII ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIER DIES IN KUWAIT
The Defense Department has released the name of a Hawaii Army National Guard Soldier killed in a vehicle accident, February 19 in Kuwait. Specialist Cwislyn K. Walter, 19, of Honolulu, was assigned to HHC, 29th Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB), 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). Three other Hawaii Army National Guard Soldiers were seriously injured in the accident.
The parents of Spec. Walter were notified Thursday night. The family says they want to thank the Hawaii National Guard and the community for their support. Spec. Walter’s parents say they are very proud of their daughter’s service to her country. They respectfully ask for a period of private mourning, and are not willing to talk to the media at this time. Spec. Walter was a 2007 graduate of Farrington High School.
“This is a tragic loss for the Walter family and for all of us, as Spec. Walter was a member of our National Guard Ohana. The entire Hawaii National Guard grieves along with the Walter family during this difficult time”, said Maj. Gen. Robert Lee, State Adjutant General. “We have assigned a support team to assist the family and will continue to provide help and comfort in any way we possibly can.”
The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
The 29th BSTB is designed to provide command and control to the brigade combat support companies (Intel and Signal) and any company-sized attachments. It includes a Headquarters and Headquarters Company, a Military Police Platoon, a Support Platoon, a CBRN Reconnaissance Platoon, a Military Intelligence Company, a Network Signal Company and Combat Engineer Company.
