Kalaeloa, HI- Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG) and the State of Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) have established a program called Hawaii Medical Innovative Readiness Training (HI-MIRT), which provides communities access to general health/sports physicals, vision screening and dental screening. The 10-day exercise is tailored specifically to the needs of the Kalaeloa and Ewa plain communities and all services are free to the public.
The HI-MIRT program is named E MALAMA KAKOU, or “to care for all”. The project has the flexibility to change and adapt to the various communities needs. Its purpose is to provide mission essential training for military medical units and personnel, while building upon the long-standing tradition of the Armed Forces of the United States, acting as good neighbors at the local level. This is the second MIRT hosted by the HIANG and DOH. The first was held in March and assisted the Waianae community with over 2,200 children and adults being seen by military medical personnel.
The U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) unit, the 4215th, providing the doctors, dentists, nurses and technicians is from Richmond, VA.
