SERVICES TO BE HELD FOR FORMER STATE ADJUTANT GENERAL
HONOLULU, HI- Services have been scheduled for retired Major General Alexis Lum, who served as the state adjutant general from 1983-1991.
Memorial Service: Wednesday, September 9, 3:00 p.m., visitation at Our Lady of Peace,
Cathedral, at Fort Street Mall, 5:30 p.m., Program: Mass at 7 p.m.
Military Honors: Thursday, September 10, 12:30 p.m. at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl
Burial: Immediately following the Punchbowl service, Thursday, September 10, at Diamond Head Memorial Park.

Major General Lum began his military service in 1945 when he was drafted shortly after graduating from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu. When discharged in 1947, he became a student at the University of Hawaii where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a ROTC commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1950.
He was called to active duty in April 1951 for the Korean conflict and served as an Infantry Platoon leader. Lum joined the Army National Guard in 1953 and when its 29th Brigade was activated in 1968 and served in Vietnam as the executive officer of the 31st Engineer Battalion.
After the Vietnam War, Lum served as commander of the Army National Guard’s Headquarters Installation Command and in January 1980 was appointed as head of the Hawaii Army National Guard. He was appointed as State Adjutant General by Governor Ariyoshi in 1983.
In civilian life, Lum worked from 1954 to 1982 at the Naval Ammunition Depot which is now the Lualualei Naval Magazine while serving as a traditional Hawaii Army National Guard officer. After retiring from the Hawaii National Guard, he served on the staff of Sen. Daniel K. Inouye.
He is survived by his wife, the former Leimomi Mookini and three children, Angela, Alexia and Oliver. four grandchildren, Dayna Carvalho, Mealani Lum, Kelli Carvalho, Lindsey Cromwell.
two great grandchildren, Luna Carvalho-Ojeda, Oceania Carvalho-Ojeda.
