Veterans Day Ceremony at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery

Under the auspices of the Office of Veterans Services, a division of the State of Hawaii, Dept. of Defense, Gov. Neil Abercrombie will host the annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.

WHEN:           Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, 1:00 p.m.

 

WHAT:           Governor’s Veterans Day Ceremony

 

WHO:             Governor Neil Abercrombie, State Adjutant General Darryll D.M. Wong, Vice Admiral Robert Kihune, members of the U.S. Military and veterans

 

WHERE:        Memorial Plaza, Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe, HI

 

Honolulu HI— Under the auspices of the Office of Veterans Services, a division of the State of Hawaii, Dept. of Defense, Gov. Neil Abercrombie will host the annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.

 

The program will begin at 12:45 p.m. with a musical prelude by the 111th Army Band from the Hawaii Army National Guard. Which will be followed by an Oli (chant) by Kahu Manu Mook. A parade of flags and presentation of leis from various veterans’ organizations will follow. Kekapa Lee will perform the invocation and benediction.

 

The ceremony will also feature the Hawaiian Lua group Pa Ka ‘Ai Kanaha Elua performing “Ha’a Maha U”, which is a form of Hawaiian martial arts. A musical interlude will be performed on ukulele by a member of the 111th Army Band. Tomoko Hotema will sing the National Anthem and Hawai’i Pono’i.

 

Gov. Abercrombie will give the Veterans Day Address. Maj. Gen. Wong will give the welcome remarks and the prominent guest speaker is Vice Admiral Kihune. They will also participate in the placing of the wreath at the Memorial Plaza Monument. There will be a rifle salute by the Hawaii Air National Guard Honor Guard.

 

Civilian attendees are asked to wear aloha attire. Military attendees are asked to wear Class B or equivalent attire.
