  • State Issues Notice To Proceed For Phase II Of Queen Kaahumanu Highway Widening Project
  • 07/19/10 - Goodfellow Bros., Inc., contractor for the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway Widening Phase 2 Project in Kailua-Kona, has been authorized to begin construction work. This road widening project is aimed at relieving congestion in the heavily trafficked corridor between Kailua-Kona and the Kona International Airport. A new website www.BuildQueenK.com and a toll free hotline 1-888-440-7988 have also been launched to keep the public up-to-date.
  • Public Information Meetings For Statewide Transportation Improvement Program Scheduled On Neighbor Islands
  • 07/19/10 - DOT will be holding its second round of statewide public informational meetings to discuss and solicit comments on the fiscally constrained Draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for Fiscal Years 2011 – 2014 (+2). Survey results from the first round of public meetings will be shared, along with details on future steps. Public participation is encouraged at these meetings, as comments received will help to guide the finalization of the STIP.
  • Kamehameha Highway Speed Limit Change Near Haleiwa Begins July 26
  • 07/12/10 - Kamehameha Hwy. speed limits in the north-bound direction between the northern-end of the Joseph P. Leong Highway (a.k.a. Haleiwa Bypass) and Papailoa Road will be decreased from 45 MPH to 35 MPH beginning Monday, July 26. The north-bound speed limit will be decreased to 35 MPH over this 1.1-mile stretch of Kamehameha Highway to match that of the south-bound lanes, allowing for safer turns into and out of adjacent streets.
  • Kalanianaole Highway Safety Improvements Project, Daytime Roadwork Begins Tuesday, 7/6, Highway Overnight Closures Begin Monday, 7/12
  • 07/02/10 - The Kalanianaole Highway Safety Improvements Project begins next week through October 2010. Daytime lane closures in westbound direction from Hanauma Bay Road to Lunalilo Home Road, on Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily. Traffic will be contraflowed. Evening work begins on Monday, July 12, with highway overnight closures in both directions from Hanauma Bay Road to the Blow Hole (Halona Point) on Monday to Thursday nights, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., nightly.
  • State Freeway Service Patrol Expands Route And Celebrates First-Year Success
  • 06/30/10 - The Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) pilot program, launched on June 17, 2009 by the state DOT, celebrated one year of service and announced the program’s expansion to include 1.7 miles from Paiwa Street to Kunia Road and 2.1 miles from the H-1/H-2 interchange to Ka Uka Boulevard, for total coverage of approximately 19 miles of freeway in both directions.
