New State-of-the-Art Explosive Detection System to be Installed at Honolulu International Airport
08/26/10 - The DOT and the Transportation Security Administration broke ground today for a new state-of-the-art Explosive Detection System (EDS) to be installed at Honolulu International Airport. The work is part of the Honolulu International Airport EDS Integration Improvements Project, which will install 16 TSA-provided in-line explosive detection machines in Lobbies 4, 5, 7, and 8 of the Overseas Terminal.

New GoAkamai.org Website Aims To Provide Real-Time Information To Travelers, Making Commutes Easier And Faster
08/10/10 - The DOT kicked off this year’s “Beat the School Jam” with a new traveler information website aimed at making commutes easier and faster. As part of a comprehensive program to improve the flow of traffic on Oahu, the DOT, in collaboration with the City & County of Honolulu, launched GoAkamai.org, which provides Oahu travelers with the most up-to-the-minute information about roadway conditions.

Public Information Meetings For Statewide Transportation Improvement Program Scheduled On Neighbor Islands
07/19/10 - DOT will be holding its second round of statewide public informational meetings to discuss and solicit comments on the fiscally constrained Draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for Fiscal Years 2011 – 2014 (+2). Survey results from the first round of public meetings will be shared, along with details on future steps. Public participation is encouraged at these meetings, as comments received will help to guide the finalization of the STIP.

American Heart Association Honors Chief Jacobs for Establishing Top Life Saving Program in the Country at Hawaii's Airports
06/29/10 - The American Heart Association of Hawaii held a ceremony at the Honolulu International Airport honoring Chief Martinez Jacobs of the Airports Fire Department, for his work in establishing the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program at Hawaii’s airports. Since the program’s inception in 2007, many people who have suffered cardiac arrests at the airports have been saved thanks to the quick actions of bystanders, who used AEDs to revive victims while waiting for emergency medical services staff to arrive. Hawaii’s innovative program has one of the highest cardiac arrest survival rates in the country.

Kahului Airport Dedicates New State-Of-The-Art Explosive Detection System
06/10/10 - Lt. Gov. James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr., the state DOT and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) dedicated a new, state-of-the-art Explosive Detection System (EDS) at Kahului Airport in a ceremony today with state and federal officials. The new EDS provides a fully-integrated, enhanced baggage security screening system capable of detecting explosives, weapons and other contraband materials for the protection of air travelers.
