Engineering Policies & Procedures
The Airports Division, Engineering Branch, consists of a Construction Section (AIR-EC), a Design Section (AIR-ED), an Environmental Section (AIR-EE), a Drafting and Graphics Section (AIR-EG), a Facilities Maintenance Section (AIR-EM), a Planning Section (AIR-EP), and a Project Coordination Section (AIR-ER). Here, you will find policies and procedures for doing business with the Engineering Branch.

Sustainable High Performance Guidelines (6.5 MB)
The DOT-A recognizes the significance and importance of sustainability, and is mandated by Act 96, SLH 2006 that directs the design and construction of buildings and facilities using State funds to meet and receive, to the extent possible, the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification or other comparable, state approved, nationally recognized, consensus based guideline, standard or system.This document provides a process to facilitate the integration and implementation of sustainable best practices in all developing projects, regardless if a project qualifies, or does not qualify, for LEED certification.
Cultural Appropriateness Guidelines (3.4 MB)
The character of the airport is critical; it is the first and last impression of Hawai'i that a visitor will experience.While still providing a functional and efficient airport facility, as well as a high quality passenger experience, this document provides the basis to evaluate and regulate design issues with regards to incorporating the uniqueness of Hawai'i and it's "sense of place", while implementing measures to control the appropriateness and compatibility of cultural elements.

All DOT-A AutoCAD basemap drawings have been converted into North American Datum of 1983 High-Accuracy Reference Network (NAD83 HARN) Coordinate System.This document provides the standards for producing and delivering CAD drawings to the DOT-A, and provides the means to update graphic information quickly, as well as to facilitate the timely access and delivery of information to external users.
