Airport parking statewide prepared for Christmas and New Year holiday season
The State Department of Transportation reminds travelers that Hawaii's commercial airports will become increasingly busy during the upcoming holiday season. While additional parking will be made available at all state airports, air travelers are still strongly encouraged to be dropped off or picked up, to utilize taxis, airport shuttles or other means of transportation. For passenger pickups, drivers who need to wait for their passenger arrival are encouraged to use the cell phone waiting areas which are opened from 5:00am – 10:00pm at the Honolulu International, Kona International, Hilo International, Kahului, and Lihue airports.

Due to limited parking and larger crowds for the upcoming holiday season, travelers are encouraged to add an additional 30 to 45 minutes to their airport arrival times in addition to the recommended two-hour pre-flight arrival time. Listed below are overflow parking plans for each airport:
Honolulu International Airport (Oahu)
The Honolulu International Airport will reopen the Economy Lot for the Christmas/New Years Holidays from Wednesday, December 17, 2008 to Monday, January 5, 2009. The Economy Lot located at the corner of Aolele/Lagoon will be open from 5:00 a.m. through 12:00 midnight or until the last flight arrives. Parking rate for the Economy Lot is $8.00 per day.
Travelers who intend to leave their vehicles at the Honolulu International Airport anytime between December 17 and January 5, are encouraged to plan ahead and use the Economy Lot. An additional 15 minutes to the normal drive-in time is recommended to allow adequate time for the transfer to the airport. All vehicles must leave the Economy Lot by 11:59 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2009. The Economy Lot shuttle to and from the terminals is free.
Historically, convenient parking at Honolulu International Airport’s Interisland Terminal (Hawaiian Airlines and Mokulele Airlines) and Commuter Terminal (go! Airlines, Island Air, Mokulele Express and Pacific Wings) becomes difficult between the hours of
8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Valet parking services are also available in the Inter-Island Terminal at the second level center median, across from the Hawaiian Airlines check-in lobby, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Valet parking rates are $20 per day and self-parking rates are $10 per day. When all parking structures are filled, motorists will be directed to the valet parking. Valet vehicle pick-up is located at the second level center median near the inter-island check-in lobby.
Travelers are also advised that the Park and Fly private operation at Paiea and Ualena Streets has closed.
A new option for credit card payment for parking fees at Honolulu International Airport was recently added. Automated credit card equipment was installed at 3 of the 8 exit lanes at the HNL parking exit plaza. The machines are easy to use as instructions are displayed on the screen. Lanes are designated by signs.
